Lady Broncos provide input on qualities they desire in next leader

With the departure of Denton girls soccer coach Iseed Khoury, athletic coordinator Kevin Atkinson has begun his search for a replacement.

“First of all, it’s going to be hard to replace Sid,” Atkinson said. “He’s been a coach here for the last 17 years and before that he grew up here, so it’s going to be hard to replace a legend such as Sid.”

The Lady Broncos were 1-19 last season and Khoury is headed to Frisco Wakeland, but the job already has attracted much interest, according to Atkinson.

“We definitely have interest in the job and we plan to move pretty quickly on that,” Atkinson said. “In the next couple of weeks, we ought to have someone to present to the district officials as the next head coach.”

Atkinson will compile a group of candidates to present who have the qualities that he, the Lady Broncos and school officials are looking for.

“We visited with the girls and let them voice what they’d like to have in their coach,” Atkinson said. “They were all positive things. We are going to make sure to find someone who is very serious in player development and find somebody who loves kids, looks after their best interests and, of course, knows the game of soccer.”
