Basketball: Guyer, Denton set for playoffs

Both Guyer and Denton will open the basketball playoffs on Tuesday, along with the rest of the area’s boys teams that qualified for the postseason.

Guyer (17-10), which finished second in District 5-4A, will open the postseason against Saginaw, the third seed out of District 6-4A. The teams will meet Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Keller Central. Guyer eliminated Saginaw in the bi-district round of the 2013 postseason.

Denton (11-14), which won a play-in game on Saturday to qualify for the postseason as the fourth seed from 5-4A, will open the playoffs against traditional powerhouse Fort Worth Dunbar at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Haltom.

In girls playoff action, No. 2 Argyle (32-1) will face Decatur in the regional quarterfinals at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Saginaw Chisholm Trail, with the winner earning a berth in the Class 3A Region II tournament. The Argyle boys will open postseason play against Sanger at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Denton.

In Class 2A action, Ponder will face Rio Vista at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Glen Rose.
