Chris Brown of Garland shot a 4-under 68 to grab a share of the lead after Thursday’s first round of the 42nd Texas State Open at The Lakes at Castle Hills golf club in Lewisville.
Tom Murray of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., also shot 68 and is tied with Brown.
Four area golfers are competing in the tournament, with Josh Jones of Denton finishing with a 2-over 74, six shots off the lead. Clinton Page of Argyle recorded a 75, while Matt Brost of Lantana shot 77 and Craig Pullen of Ponder fired a 78.
The field of 144 golfers will be cut to the low 50 scores and ties after today’s round.
