Roundup: Pilot Point’s Gallaway tosses no-hitter

PILOT POINT — Preslee Gallaway pitched a no-hitter as Pilot Point defeated Sunnyvale 3-0 on Friday in District 12-2A action.

Gallaway struck out eight batters while issuing five walks. Xena Barbour and Gallaway each had an RBI double.

The Lady Cats (2-0 district) will play host to Caddo Mills at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Ponder 5, Brock 4

BROCK — Hannah Prather drove in two runs on what would turn out to be the game-winning hit in the top of the seventh inning as the Lady Lions held off Brock in District 9-2A action.

Jessica Orozco allowed two runs in the bottom of the final frame, but was able to hold off the Eagles for the complete-game win. Orozco (4-5) and Karah Ortiz each added doubles for Ponder (7-9, 2-0 district), which will play host to Peaster at 12:30 p.m. Monday.

HILLSBORO — Argyle produced just three hits and committed six errors as the Lady Eagles were shut out at Hillsboro.

Alyssa Bruton took the loss. Cheyennena Althoff hit a double for Argyle, which will play in the San Marcos tournament on Wednesday.

Tournament of Champions

FRISCO — Ryan split a pair of games in Frisco’s Tournament of Champions on Friday, falling to Frisco Wakeland 4-3 and defeating Lucas Lovejoy 9-5.

Also playing in the tournament was Liberty Christian, which fell to Plano 5-3.

In their first game of the day, the Raiders tied the game with a three-run fourth inning. But in the bottom of the seventh inning, Wakeland scored off of Blake Grellhesl — who pitched a complete game — to claim the walk-off win.

Grellhesl led the Ryan offense, going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.

Against Lovejoy, Manny Torralba earned the complete-game victory, adding a home run and three runs scored. Cade Kennedy was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Liberty Christian carried a 3-2 lead into the fifth inning, but Plano scored three runs in the next two frames for the win.

Garrett Newland went 2-for-4 for the Warriors, while Grier Newlan had an RBI.

The Raiders and Warriors will continue play in the tournament today.

Girls soccer

Guyer 3, Lake Dallas 1

CORINTH — Hannah Alspach had a foot in all three goals for Guyer on Friday as the Lady Wildcats (13-2-3) handled Lake Dallas 3-1 in District 11-4A play.

Alspach assisted on goals by Brittany Crabtree and Sophie Martin before putting the match away in the second half with a goal of her own, assisted by Jasmine Heffley. Taylor Jones scored the Lady Falcons’ only goal on a free kick.

Mikayla Renfroe was in goal for the win for Guyer (13-2-3), which will play host to North Richland Hills Birdville at 7 p.m. March 17 in its season finale. Lake Dallas plays at Denton at 7:15 p.m., also on March 17.
