Girls golf: Guyer in position for state berth

Guyer finished the first day of the Class 4A Region I tournament tied for sixth place but still in contention for a berth in the state tournament.

The Lady Wildcats wrapped up the first round at Abilene’s Diamondback Golf Club with a team score of 367. Aledo’s Black team leads the pack at 313, while Trophy Club Nelson trails with a score of 340. Birdville is in third place at 365. Guyer is one of four teams within two strokes of Birdville for third place.

The top three teams and top three individual finishers not on an advancing team will move on to the 4A state tournament April 28-29 at the University of Texas Golf Club.

The four lowest individual scores are counted toward the team score.

Guyer’s Emily Hunt led the Lady Wildcats with an 87 and in a tie for 17th. Piper Gleadhill was next with an 88, while Allison Flack shot 92. Next were Sarah Zia (100) and Launa Wilson (101).
