ABILENE — The Guyer girls shot a 331 as a team Thursday in the final round of the Class 4A Region I tournament to finish third and secure a trip to this year’s state tournament.

The Lady Wildcats entered the final round down two strokes to third-place Birdville but improved on their first-round score by 36 strokes to capture the state berth, finishing behind Aledo Black and Trophy Club Nelson at Diamondback Golf Club.

Both the Guyer girls and boys teams will play in the Class 4A state tournament April 28-29 at the University of Texas Club in Austin.

The Lady Wildcats’ two-day total of 698 was two strokes ahead of fourth-place Wolfforth Frenship as all five Guyer players shot in the 80s on Thursday with the worst of the five scores being thrown out.

The Lady Wildcats were led by Emily Hunt’s 81 — six strokes better than her team-best 87 on Wednesday. Following Hunt were teammates Allison Flack (82), Launa Wilson (83), Sarah Zia (85) and Piper Gleadhill (88).
