AUSTIN — The fourth time was the charm for Argyle’s Maddie Schorlemmer and Lacy Blake.
The two Argyle seniors, who made their fourth appearance at the UIL state tennis tournament, played for the state championship on Tuesday in the Class 3A girls doubles bracket and finished their high school careers as winners, defeating Abilene Wylie’s Shelby Corn and Whitney Frazier 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
Schorlemmer, a Midwestern State signee who played in Austin as a singles competitor the past three years, had a career-best finish of third place at the state tournament. Blake’s previous best was two third-place finishes, both in doubles.
The Argyle duo ends its season undefeated, having dropped only three sets all year — one in the regional final, one in Monday’s first-round match and one in Tuesday’s final.
In Class 2A finals action, Krum’s mixed doubles team of McKenna Barber and Christopher Atterberry fell in a hard-fought, three-set match to Ingram Moore’s Ali Sherriff and Tyler Moore, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
