ARGYLE — Argyle had little trouble with the Paris Wildcats on Friday night, dominating both sides of the football and getting five touchdowns from Ian Sadler in a convincing 53-7 home victory.
Arygle, the state’s top ranked team in Class 3A, moved to 3-0 with the win and did so in impressive fashion that included two safeties and a kick return for a touchdown.
“This was a very nice win for us, and we got contributions from a lot of players tonight,” said Argyle head coach Todd Rodgers. “We go into every game wanting to get better and it was great that we got a lot of kids playing time as well.”
The Eagles put up 23 points in the opening quarter, with a safety and a 40-yard touchdown catch by Hunter Treadwell being sandwiched by a pair of Sadler touchdown runs.
Sadler then reeled off three more touchdowns in the second quarter. Two of those scores were catches of 14 and 8 yards from Brandon Boyzuick (113 yards passing, three TDs), with the other being a 3-yard scoring run for a 42-0 lead.
“Ian is a very talented kid and he showed that,” Rodgers said. “He’s got the potential to make a big play for us every time he touches the football.”
Arygle then closed out the half with dominating defense and special teams, combining another safety and a 57-yard kick return for a score by Reese Thompson for a 53-0 halftime lead.
Also seeing that explosive first half for Argyle was Texas Tech football coach Kliff Kingsbury, who was in attendance to watch Sadler, a Texas Tech pledge.
“I got to meet him earlier in the day,” Sadler said with a grin. “I got to meet him and my position coach [Tech’s Eric Morris], and [it was] pretty awesome to have a game like that while they were here.”
Arygle kept the pressure on in the second half thanks to its defense, twice stopping Paris on fourth down while adding an interception by Drew Estrada.
Overall, Argyle forced six turnovers against Paris and allowed just 129 total yards.
Connor Wilson and Jon Pucciarello added first-half interceptions for the Eagles.
Argyle will be on the road for its next contest, a showdown with state-ranked Kennedale at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
