Football: Calvary solves Covenant, 69-24

Brennan Bloom accounted for nine of Calvary’s 10 touchdowns on Friday night in leading the Lions to their first victory of the season, 69-24 over Fort Worth Covenant Classical.

The mercy rule was brought into effect in the third quarter after the Lions (1-3) outscored Covenant Classical 35-8 to open the second half.

Bloom was 17-of-28 passing for 413 yards and eight touchdowns. He also returned a punt for a score.

Bloom’s main target was Tyler Gerwig, who finished with 10 receptions for 303 yards and six touchdowns.

Brayden Humphrey had one rushing and one receiving touchdown, while James Helzer also had a TD catch.

The Lions return to action Oct. 11 when they open TAPPS Division 1 District 2, 6-man play on the road at Greenville Christian.
