Basketball roundup: Denton boys beat Brewer

FORT WORTH — The Denton boys took a big step forward in District 5-4A play, beating previously undefeated Fort Worth Brewer 67-51 on the road Tuesday.

Deamonte Hughes led a trio of double-digit scorers for Denton (6-9, 3-1 district) with 19 points. Keyandre Hearvey added 14 points and Adarian Harris tallied 11.

The Broncos will play host to Azle at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The Selwyn Unicorns only got points from their starters, but it was enough to overcome Fort Worth Covenant for a TAPPS Division I District 2 win.

Austin Stride and Wes Stenovitch paced Selwyn (9-1, 2-0 district) with 17 points apiece. Jimmy Chism added 13 points, Rex Haywood scored 10 and Sheldon Jeffcoat finished with nine.

The Unicorns will play host to Wichita Falls Christ Academy at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
