Baseball roundup: Ryan splits pair at tournament

Ryan hosted the James Taylor Classic on Thursday and split games against Corsicana and Frisco Wakeland.

The Raiders opened their season with a 3-2 win over Corsicana. Ryan Burks pitched five innings for the win, and Grant Gohlke picked up a six-out save. Blake Grellhesl went 2-for-3 while Cody McBee doubled for the Raiders.

In its second game, Ryan’s bats struggled in a 4-0 loss to Wakeland. Cade Kennedy’s double was the Raiders’ lone hit. Ryan starting pitcher Sam Watson pitched a complete game.

Ryan will host Haltom at 5:30 p.m. today.

Aubrey 31, Paris Chisum 2 (4)

FARMERSVILLE — Aubrey opened its season in the Farmersville tournament, scoring an impressive 31 runs in a run-rule rout of Paris Chisum.

Aubrey’s Blake Stevens, Austin Kohnly and Kylan Doucet combined to allow just four hits. Justin Sorenson went 4-for-4 with five runs and one RBI. Doucet was 3-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs.

The Chaparrals will face Pilot Point at 12:15 p.m. today.
