Boys golf: District 5-5A tourney wraps up with Rider taking top spots

On the second day of the District 5-5A tournament, Denton came up one stroke short Tuesday of advancing to region tournament, as both Wichita Falls Rider teams advanced.

The Rider Black team won with a score of 643, including a blazing Day 1 score of 311. In second was Rider Gold at 689.

The Broncos finished a stroke behind the Raiders at 690, improving on their Day 1 total of 347 with a 343 on Day 2.

Travis Bolles of Wichita Falls and Sebastian Pineres of Sherman took the medalist spots with totals of 158, with Pineres taking the top spot by winning a playoff.

Just behind them was Denton's Nick Pieschel, who posted back-to-back 81s for a two-day 162. Justin Reinhardt had a 166 with his rounds of 82 and 84.

Sherman finished fourth at 706 and Wichita Falls fifth at 717. Denison (740), Ryan (745) and Braswell (784) rounded out the field.

The Class 5A regional will begin April 26 at the Rawls Course in Lubbock.
