HEATH — The Krum Lady Cats needed only one run to emerge victorious in Game 1 of a Class 4A Region II semifinal series against Rusk on Thursday, as they scored in the fourth and held on behind Tristan Bridges' eight strikeouts for a 1-0 win.

Morgan Sebastian led the offense, going 2-for-3. Avery Williams and Maddie Goin each went 1-for-2 against Rusk (26-8-2).

Rusk pitcher Tatum Goff rarely yielded a walk, but it was a key walk in the fourth that aided the Lady Cats (34-3), and Lindsay Hill scored on a passed ball.

Despite getting just four hits, Krum coach Bryan Chaney was encouraged with the offense while expecting another low-scoring game Friday.

"We actually had quite a few base runners," Chaney said. "Their pitcher doesn't walk hitters and has a rise ball that gets a lot of batters out. We stayed off that. Tristan did a great job with her strikeouts, but for the most part it was a lot of ground balls. They're a very well coached team, and we need to capitalize on their mistakes again Friday."

Game 2 will be at 5 p.m., with Game 3 to follow 30 minutes later if necessary.

Aubrey 5, Carthage 4

MINEOLA — Aubrey and Carthage exchanged blows in Game 1 of a 4A Region II semifinal series, with Carthage scoring three runs in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead, but it was the Lady Chaps who came through with three runs in the seventh to steal a 5-4 victory.

Laney Roos primed the Aubrey offense, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and stolen base, while Alex Gray and Lexi Roos each had an RBI.

Roos, who was in the circle for Aubrey (28-7), struck out four with just one walk to Carthage (29-8-2).

"We responded to their scoring," Aubrey coach Shon Ranton said. "It was kind of back and forth. We had to settle in. We had a couple clutch hits here and there and had a seeing-eye single or two that helped us out. Roos did a really good job hitting spots, and when they put it in play our defense handled it."

Game 2 will be Friday at 6 p.m., with Game 3 to follow 30 minutes later if necessary.
