Girls soccer: Guyer replaces longtime coach with Braswell's Hall

Mandy Hall knew one day she would coach soccer at Guyer. What she didn't know was how soon that day would come.

Hall, who recently coached at Braswell, was named the coach of the Lady Wildcats this past week. Kenny Blevins — who led Guyer to the state title in 2013 — now is the assistant golf coach under new coach Lance Brown.

"As far as girls soccer goes, Guyer is such a well-respected program," Hall said. "It's a big 6A program with a history of success — it's where anyone would want to coach.

"I thought this job wouldn't be open for at least another 10 years, but when I heard it opened up, it was too good of an opportunity to pass up."

Hall, a former goalkeeper for North Texas, will enter her sixth season as a head coach. She spent four years at Lake Dallas and made the playoffs every season. Last season, she started Braswell's girls program and won two games. One of those wins was in District 5-5A.

Though her stint at Braswell was short, she says the program is in good shape.

"There were some unforeseen struggles, but at the end of the day I coach soccer because I enjoy the relationships I build with my players," Hall said. "There are some amazing young women who are going to do some great things for Braswell. I wish them all the best in the future."

Meanwhile, Blevins couldn't be happier as Hall takes over a program he helped build into a perennial power in his seven seasons at the helm. Hall, who attended Colleyville Heritage, used to play soccer against Blevins' daughter, who went to rival Grapevine.

Hall coached against Blevins in 2013. She recalled that Guyer shut out Lake Dallas 4-0 and 3-0 in district play.

Blevins said Hall will take Guyer to heights he never could.

"She is the perfect coach for this program right now," Blevins said. "I remember her playing against my daughter in high school, and her experience as a collegiate player will help Guyer get back to contending for a state title.

"The pipeline of talent is back to being full again. The junior class has a few players that could play at the collegiate level, and I think with her coming in, she could be that motivator to have the girls play at an elite level."

Braswell athletic coordinator and football coach Cody Moore said he's in the process of finding a new coach to build upon Hall's success.

"Mandy is a great coach who will be missed, but we wish her all the best at Guyer," Moore said.
