Volleyball roundup: Guyer tops Plano East, prepares for McKinney Boyd

PLANO — Despite dropping the first set, the Guyer Lady Wildcats rallied to win the next three sets to defeat a tough Plano East squad, 21-25, 25-10, 25-20, 25-21 to move into a three-way tie for first in District 6-6A.

Brooke Slusser's 24 assists, 10 digs and four kills led the Wildcats to this big victory. Kate Cowan also provided a big hand in the win with 18 digs, nine assists and two aces.

 With this victory, Guyer is now 27-9 overall and 5-2 in 6-6A play. The Lady Wildcats will hit the road to McKinney Boyd on Tuesday night. 

Callisburg d. Ponder 

PONDER —  Ponder High's hot start in District 9-3A play was put on halt tonight by the hands of Callisburg. The Lady Wildcats took this one in three sets, 25-11, 25-23, 25-16. 

Despite the losing effort, Averee Tipton still managed to lead her team with 22 assists. Bailey Frenette also had a big game with her 20 digs on the defensive side.

Ponder (17-16, 4-2) will host Pilot Point Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Sanger d. Bridgeport 

BRIDGEPORT — Led by Sydney Price's 13 kills and 4.5 blocks, the Lady Indians of Sanger were able to leave the Bridgeport gym quickly, defeating the Lady Bulls in three sets, 25-20, 25-23, 25-20.

Sanger (15-15, 2-1) heads back home Tuesday to continue District 9-4A play when they host Gainesville at 6 p.m.

Aubrey d. Melissa

AUBREY — After a close first three sets, the Aubrey Lady Chaparrals finally pulled away in the fourth game to defeat Melissa, 25-19, 18-25, 25-22, 25-14. 

The dynamic duo of Katherine Knight and Kaia Saylor were at it again as both girls had huge performances. Knight led her team with 36 assists and Saylor was a key two-way player with her 23 kills and 22 digs. 

Next up, Aubrey (15-18, 2-1) will stay in their own gym Tuesday and take on Anna for more District 11-4A action at 6 p.m.

Lake Dallas d. Newman Smith

CORINTH — The Lake Dallas Lady Falcons gave the girls of Newman Smith no chance, dominating the Lady Trojans in three sets, 25-12, 25-17, 25-15.

Kasey Bortnem's 41 assists and 14 digs were a big part of this victory for the Lady Falcons. Bailey Dolezalek also had herself a big game as she pitched in 18 kills and 14 digs. 

Lake Dallas are now 4-3 in District 14-5A and will prepare for the road to take on Carrollton Creekview Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
