ROYSE CITY — The Krum Bobcats' hopes of carrying over momentum from last week were doused by Texarkana Pleasant Grove on Friday night as the Hawks rolled to a 63-0 victory over Krum.
The Hawks (5-0), ranked 12th in the latest Associated Press Class 4A poll, led 21-0 after the first quarter. They held a 35-0 advantage at halftime and led 56-0 after three quarters.
The Bobcats, the defending District 3-4A champions, now head into next week's district opener against Iowa Park in Krum, with a 1-5 record for the season.
Gilmer Union Hill 60, Calvary 14
The Gilmer Union Hill Bulldogs used a dominating offensive attack combined with a stingy defensive effort to totally overwhelm the Calvary Lions on Friday night at Ryan High School.
The Bulldogs (5-0) scored 22 first-quarter points, led 54-14 at halftime and scored on their first possession of the second half to end the game due to the TAPPS mercy rule.
Union Hill racked up 393 yards in total offense — 287 yards rushing and 106 passing — while its defense limited Calvary to 149 total yards — 111 on the ground and 38 through the air.
The Bulldogs took a early 8-0 lead before Calvary responded to tie the game when quarterback Jacob Helzer scored on a 3-yard run and Beck Hillman added the extra point kick. Union Hill then reeled off 38 unanswered points before the Lions could score again, this time on a 13-yard TD run by Helzer with 23 seconds remaining in the first half.
Helzer was 4-of-6 passing for 38 yards and rushed 16 times for 82 yards. Lluc Oulette had 20 yards rushing on four carries and Carter Listi had nine yards on one attempt. Luke Wakeland was Calvary's top receiver with three catches for 37 yards.
Calvary (3-3) will be on the road next Friday to face Ovilla Christian.
