Volleyball roundup: Ryan tops Wichita Falls, prepare for season finale vs Sherman

The Ryan Lady Raiders continued to fight for the top spot in District 5-5A with a four-set victory against Wichita Falls High, 25-11, 26-24, 24-26, 25-20.

Taylor Brann took the reins for the Lady Raiders by doing just a little bit of everything with her 42 assists, 18 digs, five kills, two blocks and one ace. Having a big game defensively was Kenzi Valdes, who led the Lady Raiders with 37 digs.

Ryan (28-12, 10-1) will hope to end the regular season on a high note when it hosts Sherman at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Krum d. Decatur

KRUM — After suffering a heartbreaking defeat Tuesday night, the Krum Lady Bobcats got back on their feet with a four-set win against Decatur, 25-17, 25-16, 17-25, 25-17.

Medline Guffy had a team-high 23 assists to go along with her 11 digs. Rhett Robinson also was a key player for the Lady Bobcats, collecting 23 kills and 16 digs. Her younger sister Reese Robinson was right behind her with 18 kills and eight digs.

Krum improves to 8-1 in District 9-4A and 32-9 overall. The Lady Bobcats will travel to Sanger for their last regular season match-up for a 6 p.m game Tuesday.

Argyle d. Bridgeport

ARGYLE — Coming fresh off a huge comeback win Tuesday night, the Argyle Lady Eagles had no trouble at all handling Bridgeport. They dominated the Lady Bulls in three sets, 25-15, 25-6, 25-15.

Leading the way for the Lady Eagles was Danielle Davis' 12 digs, 10 kills and two aces, as well as Mariah Hesselgesser's eight kills and two blocks. 

Argyle (21-17, 7-2) will continue its impressive District 9-4A run Tuesday at 6 p.m. when the team travels to Decatur.

Sanger d. Gainesville

GAINESVILLE —  The Sanger Lady Indians breezed through Friday night's match against Gainesville, winning in three sets, 25-16, 25-16, 25-14.

Sydney Price collected 10 kills, four blocks and two aces to aid her team in the victory. Mya Afflerbach also had a good performance with her nine kills, five aces and two blocks.

Sanger (20-18, 5-4) will prepare to host the District 9-4A leader, Krum, Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Aubrey d. Anna

ANNA — The Aubrey Lady Chaps were able to bounce back from last Tuesday's loss and defeat the Anna Lady Coyotes in a much needed win. Although Anna put up a fight, Aubrey took the game in three sets, 25-22, 25-15, 27-25.

Katherine Knight led the team with 36 assists, while Kaia Saylor was the team leader in kills with 15. 

Aubrey (20-19, 6-3) will host its last District 11-4A matchup against Princeton Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Guyer d. Wylie

WYLIE — The Guyer Lady Wildcats had to battle in the first two sets against the Lady Pirates of Wylie,  but pulled away in the third to complete the sweep, 29-27, 25-23, 25-15.

Brooke Slusser had a big game for Guyer, recording 14 assists, 11 digs, 10 kills and two blocks. On the defensive side, Kate Cowan had a team-high 31 digs.

Guyer (30-11, 8-4) is tied for third place in District 6-6A and will try to break that tie in its final regular season game at home against Plano East at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
