Cross country: Liberty's Reneau commits to Duke

Liberty Christian senior Elizabeth Reneau was bound to go somewhere big to continue her cross country and track and field career. She's pretty sure Duke more than fits the bill.

Reneau, the defending TAPPS Class 6A cross country state champion, announced Monday via her Twitter account that she has verbally committed to the Blue Devils. Reneau said she has been talking to Duke since the beginning of her junior year.

"I've always loved Duke. The coach is great, their program is great and the overall academics is what I was looking for as well," Reneau said. "It really checked off a lot of boxes for me."

Reneau will shoot for her fourth state title in cross country when she competes in the TAPPS 6A state meet Monday in Waco. Between cross country and track, she has won 10 individual state titles and one team title.

She won state titles in the 800 meters, 1,600 and 3,200 last season. She entered that track meet as the two-time defending state champion in the one-mile and two-mile runs.

"I've been extremely blessed with the recruiting process," Reneau said. "I just took it for what it was worth, and it feels great to have this decision already made. It's the opportunity of a lifetime."
