Volleyball: Area teams headed to second round of playoffs

Three Denton-area teams -- Krum, Argyle and Sanger -- will head into the second round of the UIL state volleyball playoffs on Thursday and Friday night.

The Krum Lady Cats, the District 9-4A champion, faces Caddo Mills at 7 p.m. Thursday night at McKinney Boyd in the area round of the Class 4A Region II playoffs. Krum reached this round with a lopsided 25-6, 25-7, 25-5 sweep of Dallas Lincoln in the bi-district round on Monday night. Caddo Mills defeated Aubrey in the opening round.

Argyle, the 9-4A runner-up, will face Nevada Community on Thursday night at Frisco's Lebanon Trail High School, beginning at 7 p.m.  The Lady Eagles easily advanced to the area round with a 25-10, 25-7, 25-6 sweep of Dallas Carter on Monday. Nevada Community defeated Princeton in the opening round.

Sanger, also from 9-4A, faces Celina at 5 p.m. Friday at Aubrey in the area round. Sanger advanced with a 25-15, 26-24, 25-6 sweep of Carrollton Ranchview Tuesday night. Celina knocked off Kaufman to get to the second round matchup with the Lady Chaparrals.
