The UIL state volleyball playoffs heat up Tuesday for a trio of Denton-area teams looking to earn a berth to the Class 4A Region II tournament this weekend at Mesquite Poteet.

Krum, the District 9-4A champion, will face district rival Sanger at 7 p.m. at Ryan in the Class 4A region quarterfinals. The Lady Bobcats are looking for their third straight trip to a region semifinal. Sanger is looking for its first, but has lost twice to Krum this season.

Krum knocked off Dallas Lincoln in the first round in straight sets and defeated Caddo Mills in the area round Thursday 25-14, 18-25, 25-13, 25-10. Sanger got to this point after defeating Carrollton Ranchview in the first round and then rallied to defeat Celina 20-25, 25-20, 25-11, 29-27 on Friday.

Fellow district bunkmate Argyle, last year's state runner-up, will face Decatur at 7 p.m. at Trophy Club Nelson. Argyle is looking for its fifth trip in six seasons to a region tournament.

Argyle cruised into the regional quarterfinals with three-set sweeps of Dallas Carter and Nevada Community.  Decatur defeated North Hills and Melissa to reach the third round.
