Basketball roundup: Aubrey dominates Pilot Point in season opener

AUBREY — The Aubrey Lady Chaps opened their season with a dominating 68-23 victory over the Pilot Point Lady Bearcats. Defense was the big key for Aubrey, which held Pilot Point to single digits in each of the first three quarters. 

KathiMae Dow led all scorers with 24 points in the victory. Kinley Ramirez chipped in with 10 points and Kalysta had nine. 

Aubrey will now have quite a break before competing in the Bells tournament next weekend.

Brock 46, Ponder 43

BROCK — The girls of Ponder did not open their season as they'd hoped, falling in a close one to Brock.

Ponder outscored Brock 20-13 in the second half, but it was not enough to complete the comeback.

Three Lady Lions carried the load, as Kaia Williams, Leigh Medders and Chloe Poole each had nine points.

Ponder will host Braswell at 6:15 Friday night.

Braswell 56, North Mesquite 42

The Braswell Lady Bengals were able to use a strong defensive stand in the third quarter for a victory in their opener, holding North Mesquite to two points to open the second half.

Tiarah Starks had a game-high 14 points to guide Braswell in the win. Aminah Hall was right behind with 13.

Braswell will hit the road to face Ponder at 6:15 p.m. Friday.

McKinney Boyd 44, Lake Dallas 32

CORINTH — Despite only scoring two points in the first quarter, the girls of McKinney Boyd were able to turn it around and grab a win in their opener. 

Erin James had herself a game, as she led all scorers with 20 points and was a big factor for Boyd in the victory.

Irving MacArthur 83, Denton 32

The Denton Lady Broncos were handed their first loss, in brutal fashion at the hands of the Irving MacArthur Lady Cardinals. 

MacArthur scored 32 points in the opening quarter and did not look back.

Denton looks to bounce back when it competes in the Frisco Invitational starting Thursday.

DALLAS — The Argyle Lady Eagles hit the road for their first game of the year and used a 22-point third quarter to come away with the victory.

The Lady Eagles had a huge factor in Gabby Standifer, who led all scorers with 26 points.

Argyle will travel to battle Prosper at 6 p.m. Friday.

SANGER -- The Sanger Lady Indians held Fort Worth Castleberry scoreless in the first half en route to a 63-12 victory Monday night in the season opener for both squads.

The Lady Indians led 17-0 after the first quarter and 37-0 at halftime.

Sanger's Brooke Rollins led all scorers with 12 points and Maci Turkoly and Abbie Kenning had 11 apiece.

Sanger will be back in action Friday when it hosts Lake Dallas.
