Basketball roundup: Big second quarter propels Argyle over Liberty Christian

ARGYLE — A tightly contested matchup resulted with  Argyle coming out on top against Liberty Christian with the help of a big 21-point second quarter.

Offense was spread out for the Eagles, but Ben Collins and Luke Feely tied for the team-high in scoring with nine points.

SHERMAN — Aubrey opened up their season with a dominant win. Aubrey had total control in the first half, outscoring the Eagles 41-15.

Adrian Porter took charge of Aubrey's offense, leading all scorers with 19 points. Kaleb Wright was right behind him with 16 points, and Christian Porter had 12.

Aubrey will have Friday off before hosting Gainesville on Monday night.

CORINTH - Lake Dallas fell just a bit short in their season opener, despite having a big 23-point fourth quarter.

Udo Onyekwere led the charge for the Falcons with 15 points. Manny Brown was next behind him with 11.

PASADENA — Sanger had trouble getting points on the board in the first half, scoring only to 10 points. That slow start proved to be costly as it lost by only six points. 

Two Indians reached double digits in scoring. Landon Ceballos led the team with 14 points, and Trey Henderson had 11.

Braswell 62, Lovejoy 38

LUCAS -- The Braswell Bengals, led by Mark Leslie's 30 point,  used a 45 point second half to pull away for a 62-38 victory over Lovejoy.

The Bengals led 17-8 at halftime before outscoring Lovejoy 26-13 in the third quarter.

Joining Leslie in the scoring for the Bengals was Brandon Barlow with 10 points.

Braswell will host Princeton on Friday night.

MIDLOTHIAN -- The Guyer Wildcats rallied from a four-point deficit at the beginning of the final quarter to take a 63-60 win over Midlothian.

The Wildcats (2-0) trailed 31-29 at halftime and 48-44 entering the final quarter before outscoring Midlothian 19-12 to take the victory.

De'Vion Harmon and JaKobe Coles led Guyer with 15 points each. Jalen Wilson added 13 and Grayson Carter finished with 12.

Guyer will be back in action on Friday night when it faces Amarillo at 7 p.m. at Wichita Falls Rider.

PILOT POINT — Pilot Point struggled to find a rhythm offensively and lost in a low-scoring affair. Pilot Point failed to reach double digits in any quarter.  

Kenedee Gist had a team-high eight points, while Embriaya Bowen wasn't far behind with six.

The Lady Bearcats will head back home and prepare to host Bridgeport at 5 p.m. Friday.

SANGER — Strong defensive play helped the Sanger Lady Indians stay undefeated so far this season. Sanger only allowed over 10 points in the final quarter to close it out. 

Maci Turkoly proved to be a difference maker for the Lady Indians in the victory, leading all scorers with 17 points. 

Sanger will compete in its first tournament of the year when it participates in The Colony's tournament from Thursday through Saturday.

KRUM — A slow second half for Krum was a big difference factor in its loss.

The Lady Bobcats were outscored 24-6 in those final two quarters. Rhett Robinson was still able to be the top scorer of the game, collecting 13 points.

Krum will travel to battle Frisco Independence at 6 p.m. Friday.

PRINCETON — A big game at the free throw line led Ponder to the victory. The Lady Lions went 21-for-27 from the stripe in their win.

Kaia Williams was the big factor for Ponder, leading the team with 18 points. Kylie Green also helped out in the win, adding in 12 points. 

Ponder will host a tournament from Thursday through Saturday.

CORINTH — Lake Dallas was able to provide consistent scoring in its big win.

Dorian Norris was the lead scorer for the Lady Falcons offense, racking up 13 points. Morgan Helixon trailed her with 11.

GRAPEVINE — Ryan had no answer for Colleyville's offense in a one-sided loss.

Kannessia Holbert led all Lady Raiders scorers with 11 points.

ARGYLE — Argyle had no problem  putting up points in a dominating win.

Sydney Standifer had a team-high 20 points, and Gabby Standifer was just below her with 18 points. 

Argyle will now prepare to compete in the Flower Mound tournament this Thursday - Saturday.
