Basketball roundup: Lady Chaps claim bronze in Bells tournament

BELLS — After winning by forfeit Friday night,  Aubrey used its unexpected day off to its advantage and came back to defeat Braswell 50-45 in overtime to claim bronze in the Bells tournament.

Aubrey outscored Braswell 12-7 in the overtime period to get the victory.

Putting up big numbers for the Lady Chaps was Kathimae Dow, who had a team-high 22 points, and Kaia Saylor with 16 points. Dow was also named to the All-Tournament team.

Aubrey will return to action on Tuesday when it hosts Bells.

THE COLONY — Sanger suffered yet another close loss in the final day of The Colony tournament. 

A low scoring fourth quarter was the killer for Sanger. Even though they only allowed six points, they were held to two in the loss. 

This was the third straight game that was decided by fewer than five points for the Lady Indians. They finished the tournament with a 1-3 record.

Allye Morrow was still able to put up a team-high 16 points in the losing effort. Maci Turkoly also had a good game with 14 points.

Sanger now will hope to get back on its feet when its host Whiteboro at 1:15 p.m. Monday.
