Argyle, Aubrey and Lake Dallas survived the first week of the UIL state playoffs and will take the next step Friday and Saturday in the area round of the state title chase.
Argyle (11-0) will continue its travels through Class 4A Division I opponents when it goes up against Levelland (6-4) at 7 p.m. Friday in Clyde. The winner will move to the regional round next week and will face the winner between Stephenville and Pampa, which play Friday night in Wichita Falls.
Aubrey (8-3) faces a huge challenge in its 4A Division II matchup with Texarkana Pleasant Grove (11-0). They play at 4 p.m. Friday at Frisco's Ford Center at The Star. The winner will face the Celina-Jasper winner next week. Celina and Jasper play at 2 p.m. Friday in Athens.
Lake Dallas will be on the big stage at Arlington's AT&T Stadium on Saturday to meet North Forney at 4 p.m. The Falcons are 7-4 and North Forney carries a 9-2 record into the Class 5A Division II matchup. The victor will face the winner between Mansfield Legacy and Dallas Kimball next week. Legacy and Kimball play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Dallas' Kincaide Stadium.

What's on the line: Even without its starting quarterback Jon Copeland, Argyle still continues to use it various weapons to roll through opponents, and it likely will do the same against Levelland, who hopes to give the Eagles a stiff challenge.

What's on the line: The Chaparrals' defense has made the plays when its needed to, and that's what has kept them winning this season after losing two Division I players on offense — Jordan Redfearn and Gatlin Grisso. They will face an undefeated Pleasant Grove squad who secured wins against some of the top teams in Class 4A during the regular season.

What's on the line: The Falcons surprised most except themselves in a close win against Frisco Reedy last week, and coach Michael Young has his team peaking at the right time. Lake Dallas now faces its toughest opponent in North Forney, led by Louisiana-Monroe commit Colby Suits, who has thrived under new coach Randy Jackson.
