Ryan quarterback Spencer Sanders was named Mr. Texas Football by Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine on Monday. He'll be recognized Dec. 27 at the Texas Bowl in Houston.
Sanders, who battled back from two season-ending knee injuries in his high school career, was one of 10 finalists for this year's award. In four seasons, the Oklahoma State commit compiled a 46-6 record in 52 career starts and led the Raiders to the Class 5A Division I state semifinals in each of the last two seasons.
Sanders finished his senior year having thrown for 3,845 yards and 54 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,380 yards and 16 more scores. He won the Gatorade Texas Player of the Year award last week and was recently named the District 5-5A most valuable player.
Sanders was also a finalist for the Landry Award.
