Basketball roundup: Ryan wins thriller in district opener vs. Sherman


SHERMAN — The Ryan Raiders' District 5-5A opener was an exciting one that ended in Ryan coming out with a 64-63 victory over Sherman on Tuesday. 

Ryan's Jay Wilson led all scorers with 20 points. Spencer Sanders was the only other Raider to reach double digits in scoring with his 11 points.

Ryan's district action will continue when it hosts Wichita Falls at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

SANGER — The Sanger Indians' strong first quarter proved to be the difference in their victory over Iowa Park. Sanger held Iowa Park to four points in the first period.

CJ Jackson was the top scorer in the low-scoring affair with 13 points for the Indians. Hank Lemons followed with 10 points.

Sanger will have Friday night off before opening District 9-4A play by traveling to battle Decatur on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

KRUM — The outstanding shooting performances of Carter Marquis and Remi May led the Krum Bobcats to a  41-point win over Anna.

Marquis led all scorers with 18 points while May was right behind with 17. Bryson Laird pitched in with 13 points.

Krum (17-5) will stay at home and host Melissa at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

MUENSTER — The Krum Lady Cats got off to a hot first half in their victory over Muenster. 

Krum's Rhett Robinson went off for a huge game, racking up a game-high 27 points.

Krum will kick off District 9-4A play with a home matchup against Decatur at 12:15 p.m. Saturday.

PONDER — Led by sisters Sydney and Gabby Standifer, the Argyle Lady Eagles used a big offensive game to lift them over the Ponder Lady Lions. 

Sydney Standifer put up 26 points while Gabby Standifer poured in 21. 

Kylie Green stood alone as the only Lady Lion to hit double figures in scoring with 12 points in the losing effort.

Argyle will visit Bridgeport at 6:15 p.m. Friday. Ponder will begin District 9-3A play when it heads over to battle Callisburg  at 6:15 p.m. Friday,

DENISON — The Denton Lady Broncos suffered their first loss in District 5-5A play to Denison, despite Denton carrying a six-point lead at halftime. 

Denison outscored the Lady Broncos 20-8 in the third quarter to take the lead.

Kylie Scott managed to drop in 17 points in the losing effort. Jamie Means followed with 16 points.

Denton will travel to take on Wichita Falls Rider at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
