Ryan wide receiver Gabriel Douglas will not sign with Texas Tech on Wednesday during national signing day. He has been committed to the Red Raiders since October 2016.
Ryan offensive coordinator Conroy Hines said Douglas, a three-year starter with the Raiders, will instead sign with Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Mississippi. Douglas made a one-day trip to Mississippi on Friday for a visit and loved it, Hines said.
Douglas finished his senior year with 1,366 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns. Ryan went 14-1 and lost to eventual Class 5A Division I state champ, Highland Park, in the state semifinals. Hines said he expects Douglas to be one of at least five signees on Wednesday morning. Rondarius McGarr is expected to sign with Trinity Valley, Mike Nielsen with Wayland Baptist, and Carson Shelton with Angelo State. Kobe Spence is signing with Kansas Wesleyan.
Hines said that Tauskie Dove, another star wide receiver for the Raiders in each of the past three seasons, could be a late addition to that list.
