Girls basketball: Standifer sisters, McKinney named to UIL state all-tournament team

SAN ANTONIO — After leading the Argyle girls basketball program to its fourth consecutive state championship, freshman guard Sydney Standifer, senior forward Gabby Standifer and sophomore guard Rhyle McKinney were named to the UIL's Class 4A state all-tournament team Sunday morning.

Sydney Standifer, who was voted the MVP of the state championship game, averaged 13.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3 assists over the weekend. After struggling in a semifinal win over Houston Wheatley, she exploded for a game-high 22 points to lead Argyle past San Antonio Veterans Memorial in a 60-41 win.

McKinney was the most consistent offensive weapon for the Lady Eagles and averaged 19.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and three steals in San Antonio. She provided a spark on the defensive end against Veterans Memorial and got off to a hot start shooting the ball to ignite Argyle's 12-2 run in the first quarter.

Gabby Standifer, a Fresno State signee, caught fire at halftime of the semifinal game against Wheatley and scored 16 points in the second half of that game to guide the Lady Eagles to a win. She averaged 18 points and 5.5 rebounds at the state tournament.

The trio combined to score 56 of Argyle's 60 points in Saturday night's 60-41 win over San Antonio Veterans Memorial. Junior guard Charlene Mass and sophomore forward Sahara Jones of San Antonio Veterans Memorial joined the Standifer sisters and McKinney on the all-tournament team.
