FORT WORTH — Ian Sadler scored a trifecta for the Argyle Eagles on Friday night, scoring touchdowns rushing, receiving and returning during the Eagles’ 28-7 victory over Fort Worth Nolan Catholic.

Argyle, which reached the Class 3A Division II state championship game last year, and the Vikings, who won the TAPPS Division I state championship last year, were both coming off season-opening losses.

Along with Sadler’s big night, the Eagles (1-1) forced six Nolan turnovers, including a pair of interceptions by defensive back Connor Wilson.

Sadler started his night with a 55-yard touchdown run less than a minute into the game, taking a handoff from quarterback Brandon Boyzuick, bouncing outside and sprinting down the sideline to give Argyle a 7-0 lead.

Sadler was the central figure in the next two touchdowns. In the second quarter, the Eagles took over a drive on their 31-yard line after an interception by Wilson. On the first play, Argyle went deep, with Boyzuick floating a pass down the left sideline to Sadler. He caught the pass, deftly avoided stepping out of bounds and broke away from the cornerback for a 79-yard score and a 14-0 Argyle lead with 9:39 left in the second quarter.

Sadler then burned the Vikings (0-2) again in the third quarter, fielding a punt at the Eagles’ 33. He caught a seam up the left side, got some key blocks and raced to the end zone to put Argyle in command at 21-0 lead with the 67-yard return.

Argyle’s Nick Ralston added the other score, a 47-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

It wasn’t a perfect night for the Eagles. Argyle missed two field goals, one of which was from 50 yards, and committed two turnovers.

While Boyzuick delivered the touchdown pass to Sadler, he was only 4-of-17 passing. Also, the Eagles failed to score twice inside Nolan’s 10-yard line. Boyzuick fumbled a snap to turn the ball over on one possession and the other drive stalled after a bad snap forced Sadler into a 19-yard loss.

Nolan quarterback Joseph Prud’homme was the lone highlight for the Vikings, scoring their lone touchdown on a 4-yard run. He also passed for 145 yards.
