Denton Calvary's Libero Kelly Crow dives for a dig against Rockwall Heritage Friday in the TAPPS 2A state semifinal match. Calvary claimed a 25-11, 25-16, 21-25, 25-19 win over Heritage, setting up a rematch with Geneva School of Boerne for the state title on Saturday.

CORSICANA — Calvary claimed a 25-11, 25-16, 21-25, 25-19 win over Rockwall Heritage Christian on Friday in the TAPPS Class 2A state tournament semifinals, setting up a rematch of last season’s state title match today with the Geneva School of Boerne in the final.

Madeline Mayer had 19 kills and 17 assists for the Lady Lions, while Anna Hollingshead posted 19 kills and 23 digs. Kelly Crow added 28 digs, and Makenzie Willison had 17 assists.

Calvary head coach Jennifer Bramlett liked the way her team started and finished the match.

“We just started really strong,” she said. “Rockwall battled, and we were able to keep our composure and just play our game.”

Calvary defeated the Geneva School of Boerne in last season’s state championship, which Bramlett thinks could work against the Lady Lions as much as in their favor.

“I think we showed our experience [Friday],” Bramlett said. “They’re always solid. They won several times in [Class] A, but they have a whole new group of players.

“Also, I guess it could be a disadvantage because now they’ll be gunning for us.”

The Lady Lions and Lady Eagles are set for a 4:30 p.m. first serve at Corsicana High School.
