Denton began the fall season on a high note, beating visiting Argyle 15-7 on Tuesday. Leading the way were the Denton girls, who won six out of their seven singles matches and two out of three doubles matches.
At No. 2 singles, Denton’s Maria Royo defeated Lindsey Love 6-2, 6-1. Estefani Escamilla defeated Sydney Austin 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Rebecca Fu, Flor De la Garza, Beatriz Galvez and Luma Rashed also claimed victories for Denton.
In girls doubles, Fu and Garza teamed up to defeat Argyle’s Lindsey Lotze and Ariel Pollard 8-4. Galvez and Rashed defeated Argyle’s Nicole Zilenski and Ali Pollard 8-3.
On the boys side, Denton took a 5-3 advantage in singles, thanks to No. 1 entrant Alex Clerihew’s 8-1 victory over Argyle’s Jack Vickery. Will Crouch defeated Vickery 8-6 but fell to Argyle’s Luke McMullen 7-9. Truett Ide, Wade Cope and Peter Hansen were other winners for Denton in singles.
Denton will host Saginaw at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
