For the second straight year, Ryan defensive end Mario Edwards was named the Class 4A Defensive Player of the Year when the Texas Sports Writers Association released its 4A all-state team on Friday. Edwards also was chosen for the first team. Joining Edwards on the first team is former teammate and linebacker Alex De La Torre.
Three Raiders - defensive end Dominique Banks, defensive back Trey Mohair and offensive lineman Jordan Williams - were all named to the third team, along with Lake Dallas quarterback Dalyn Williams.
UNT commit Boone Feldt, a Buda Hayes offensive lineman, was picked for the first team.
On Saturday, the TSWA released its Class 5A all-state team. Guyer defensive end Dan Kottman, a San Diego State commit, was chosen to the first team.
