Football: Calvary enters win column

AUSTIN — The Calvary Lions had their best offensive game of the season Friday and claimed their first victory, beating Austin Hill Country Christian 53-46.

Calvary quarterback Justin Rush and running backs Matt Hood and Jessie Wells combined for 257 yards on the ground.

Hood scored four touchdowns on runs of 10, 1, 1 and 24 yards and caught a 17-yard TD pass from Rush. Hood had 58 rushing yards on seven carries and caught four passes for 118 yards.

Rush had 100 yards on seven carries and was 10-of-14 passing for 223 yards and two scores. Wells finished with 99 yards on the ground on 15 carries and caught three passes for 76 yards.

Joseph Peters had just one catch on the night, but it was a 10-yard touchdown from Rush.

Calvary (1-2) is off next week before playing host to Carrollton Harmony on Sept. 28.
