One of the most hyped nondistrict matchups in the state now will be played in Denton on the opening weekend of the season.

Guyer, winner of two consecutive Class 4A Division I state championships, will face the winner of the last two Class 5A Division I titles, Allen, on Friday, Aug. 29 at Apogee Stadium as part of the Tom Landry Classic, Guyer coach John Walsh said Tuesday.

The game was scheduled to be played at Allen’s Eagle Stadium, but construction and concrete issues at the $60 million stadium forced the game to be moved. It was announced Tuesday that Allen will play its 2014 home games in Plano.

Guyer played at Apogee, which opened in 2011, for the first time during its 2013 playoff run when it defeated Birdville. Allen has not played at the stadium.
