The Guyer Wildcats and Argyle Eagles landed spots in The Associated Press’ preseason high school football poll released Wednesday.

Guyer, the reigning two-time Class 4A Division I champion, entered the Class 6A poll at No. 7. Guyer moved up to the state’s largest classification this season after spending the last two years in 4A, which then was the second-largest class.

In the Class 4A poll, Argyle is ranked sixth and received three first-place votes following last season’s Class 3A Division II state title.

The Allen Eagles, Guyer’s opening opponent, grabbed the top spot in the 6A poll with 15 first-place votes while Katy holds the second spot and Cedar Hill is third. Guyer and Allen will open the season Aug. 29 at Apogee Stadium.

Stephenville heads into the season as the top pick in Class 4A, grabbing 14 first-place votes. Navasota is ranked second and Graham is third. Argyle will open the season Aug. 29 at home against Abilene Wylie.
