Basketball roundup: Guyer boys, girls get swept by Southlake Carroll

Guyer kept it close Tuesday but ultimately lost to Southlake Carroll 55-46.

Miles Crawford scored 16 points for Guyer (12-16, 4-8). Andrew Williams also was in double figures with 13 points.

 

The Colony 64, Denton 54 (OT)

THE COLONY - Denton took The Colony to overtime but ran out of gas in a 64-54 loss.

The Colony (28-4, 9-1) is No. 10 in the state, according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

J.J. Harper led Denton (12-16, 4-7) with 16 points. D.J. Hicks had 14 points, while Ronny Garza chipped in with 10.

 

Gainesville 72, Aubrey 44

AUBREY - Gainesville scored 23 points in the first quarter to defeat Aubrey 72-44.

Curtis Knicker led Aubrey (6-22, 0-8) in scoring with 11 points. Trevor Gomez and Michael Page had 10 points apiece.

 

Girls

Southlake Carroll 57, Guyer 42

SOUTHLAKE - Guyer fell 57-42 to Southlake Carroll in its final regular-season game.

Jasmine Leday scored 22 points for playoff-bound Guyer (25-8, 10-4), while Quamese Moss and Katy Davis had six points apiece.

 

The Colony 46, Denton 24

THE COLONY - With a playoff spot on the line, Denton couldn't get it done, shooting 10-for-45 from the field in a 46-24 loss to The Colony.

Jasmine Taylor scored nine points for the Lady Broncos.

With Ryan's win over Little Elm, however, Denton (20-12, 5-7) will get another shot at the playoffs with a play-in game against Little Elm. The game takes place at The Colony at 6 p.m. Friday.

 

Pilot Point 62, Whitesboro 41

PILOT POINT - Pilot Point (16-16, 2-8) ended its season on a high note with a 62-41 whipping of Whitesboro.

Abby Watson had a monster game, scoring 15 points and pulling down 15 rebounds. Callie Barrett led in scoring with 16 points, while Andi Sheeder scored 12 points and had seven rebounds.

 

Krum 46, Ponder 33

KRUM - Krum outscored Ponder 16-4 in the first quarter to cruise to a 46-33 win.

Rachel Wallace scored 16 points to pace Krum (29-2, 11-1). Sydney Shelstead had a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 16 rebounds.

Madison Stout had 11 points to lead Ponder (23-12, 7-5), while Jessica Sprabeary tallied 10 points.

Ponder and Krum will both travel to Bridgeport on Friday. Ponder plays Nocona at 6 p.m., while Krum plays for the district title against Alvord at 8 p.m.

 

Gainesville 37, Aubrey 31

AUBREY - Aubrey could not knock off Gainesville in its final game of the season.

Kendyl Wright scored 15 points for Aubrey (9-25, 4-6), while Allison Crooks and Mahaley Millican had six points apiece.

 

Plano John Paul II 54, Liberty Christian 44

ARGYLE - In a battle between top-10 teams, Plano John Paul II, which is No. 4 in the Large Private School division of the TABC rankings, defeated No. 6 Liberty Christian 54-44.

Liberty (21-15, 7-5) received 19 points from Nia Jackson. Nicole Kornet added 12 points in the loss.
