Volleyball roundup: Denton earns split on first day of tournament

THE COLONY — The Denton Lady Broncos evened their season record at 5-5 on Thursday after splitting two matches during the opening day of The Colony/Lewisville varsity tournament.

The Lady Broncos dropped a two-set match to Frisco Centennial to start the day, losing 25-16, 25-21.

Jade Akins led the Lady Broncos with eight kills while Kendall Wagner added four.

Denton then swept a match against Carrollton R.L. Turner, winning 25-15, 25-14.

Wagner recorded eight kills while Gennifer Holberg had seven. Mariah Warren and Morgan Reese had six aces apiece.

In other action, Lake Dallas was swept in its first two matches of the tournament.

The Lady Falcons lost to Forney 25-23, 25-15 in their first match before losing to North Mesquite 25-15, 25-0.

The Lady Falcons play Frisco Lone Star and McKinney North today.
