ARGYLE — Argyle dominated its own tournament Tuesday night, sweeping both Lake Dallas and Ryan.
The Lady Eagles (11-7) defeated Lake Dallas in their first match 25-11, 25-13, 25-12. They then went on to beat Ryan 25-16, 25-18, 25-18.
Blair O’Brien had led the Lady Eagles with 48 assists, three blocks and three kills. Katy Keenan picked up 19 kills and six blocks combined. Brooke Robertson had 12 kills and three aces. In addition, Eighmy Dobbins had 12 kills and two aces.
Argyle will play host to another varsity tournament Thursday through Saturday.
Ryan started the day with a 25-16, 25-22, 25-22 victory over Lake Dallas. Arissa Chappell led the Lady Raiders with 14 assists, nine aces and four kills, while Hailey Foster recorded four kills. In addition, Shelby Smith had eight digs, while Domino Birzy had seven, and Delaney Bunselmeyer had five kills.
“Against Lake Dallas we came out ready to play and we kept our intensity each set,” Ryan head coach Cindy Williams said. “We worked toward our goal to start strong and finish strong, and it paid off. Against Argyle, we fought and played hard, but simple mistakes cost us the win.”
Liberty Christian d. Denton
ARGYLE — Liberty Christian secured a win Tuesday night by defeating Denton at home in four sets — 16-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-21.
Paige Jeary led the Lady Warriors (11-5) with three aces and five kills. Ali Eager notched 10 kills and four digs, while Katie Smith had 16 digs and two aces. Olivia Asprey added 15 assists and six kills.
“Tonight was a great opportunity to play a great team in front of a great crowd,” Liberty Christian head coach Kimberly Weaver said. “We made positive adjustments between the first and second sets. I’m very proud of our team and encouraged by their ability to finish strong.”
For Denton, Kendall Wagner led the Lady Broncos with 25 digs and seven kills. Gennifer Holberg recorded eight kills and five blocks, while Alex Dane had 25 digs, Morgan Reese had 15 assists and Jade Akins had nine kills.
Denton Calvary d. Dallas Cambridge
DALLAS — Denton Calvary swept Dallas Cambridge by scores of 25-16, 25-7, 25-18.
Anna Hollingshead led the Lady Lions (9-3) with six kills, five aces and four digs. Peyton Stewart had 20 assists, six digs and five kills, while Cory Grant had nine kills and six digs. Kelly Crow added 10 digs.
“They came out really strong and continued to use the skills we’ve been teaching them,” Denton Calvary head coach Donna Martin said. “Overall, I was really proud of them.”
Aubrey d. Melissa
AUBREY — Aubrey secured a win at home against Melissa, putting the Lady Chaparrals at 8-7 on the season.
The Lady Chaparrals beat the Lady Cardinals in five sets, winning 25-23, 12-25, 25-21, 15-25, 15-11.
Maggie McCullough led the Lady Chaparrals with14 kills, five blocks and two digs, while Alex Martinez recorded 30 assists and eight digs. Kelsey Scribner added 11 digs and 10 kills.
“We were in some tough situations over the weekend, but we talked it over and the girls stepped up and led us to a victory,” Aubrey head coach Joe Bullard said.
Little Elm d. Pilot Point
LITTLE ELM — Pilot Point opened with a first-set win, but was unable to put away Little Elm, losing by scores of 25-21, 19-25, 25-20, 25-16 and falling to 10-4 on the season.
