Volleyball roundup: DHS comeback sinks Azle

The Denton Lady Broncos battled back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Azle 25-15, 23-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-7 on Friday night.

Jade Akins led the Lady Broncos with 13 kills and 11 digs, while Kendall Wagner had 14 digs and 10 kills. Morgan Reese recorded 27 assists, Alex Dane had 14 digs, Gennifer Holberg had 13 kills, and Brittany Keffer had four blocks.

With the victory, Denton is 17-13 for the season and 3-2 in District 5-4A play.


Flower Mound Marcus d. Ryan

FLOWER MOUND — The Ryan Lady Raiders fell to Marcus in three sets 25-12, 25-9, 25-12 in District 5-5A play.

Susana Strange led the Lady Raiders (6-29) with four kills and three blocks. Arissa Chappell added eight assists and seven digs, while Hailey Foster recorded four kills and Kodi Pettigrew had two aces.

“We are trying to improve every time we step on the court and to have fun, win or loss,” Ryan head coach Cindy Williams said. “Transitioning to 5A has been tough, but we are improving.”


Carrollton Ranchview d. Aubrey

AUBREY — Aubrey opened District 10-3A play with a four-set loss to Carrollton Ranchview, falling 20-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-16. The loss dropped the Lady Chaps to 14-13 on the season.


Lake Dallas d. Wichita Falls

CORINTH — Lake Dallas won its second District 5-4A match, beating Wichita Falls 25-20, 25-13, 23-25, 25-23.

The Lady Falcons improved to 11-19 on the season and 2-3 in district play.

Meagan Dando led the Lady Falcons with 15 kills, six service aces and three blocks. Keegan Gossett recorded 19 digs and nine kills, while Macey Bauman had 22 assists and 11 digs. Amanda Edwards finished with 17 digs.

“The girls are starting to play as a team again and with more confidence,” Lake Dallas head coach Heather Van Noy said. “As a coach that’s what I want to see.”


Guyer d. Wichita Falls Rider

WICHITA FALLS — Guyer defeated Wichita Falls Rider in five sets by scores of 25-19, 15-25, 20-25, 25-21, 15-10.

Mikayla Yates and Sylvia Nwiba led the Lady Wildcats with 13 kills each. Jasmine Montemayor recorded 19 digs, while Madison Walford had 41 assists and 16 digs.


Argyle d. Celina

CELINA — Argyle won its District 10-3A opener, defeating Celina 25-16, 25-16, 25-22.

Blair O’Brien led the Lady Eagles (22-9) with 31 assists, four kills and an ace. Laine Lowry recorded 12 digs, while Brooke Robertson finished with 11 kills.

Argyle will play at Rockwall-Heath on Tuesday night.
