Basketball roundup: Guyer gallops past Grapevine

KELLER — Mitchell Willard scored 16 points to lead the Guyer Wildcats to a 48-39 win over Grapevine in the Keller Timber Creek tournament Friday night.

Josh Jordan and Justin Griffin each added 10 points for the Wildcats (6-2).

 

Howe 51, Aubrey 50

SADLER — Despite a 22-point effort from Jevon Saylor, the Aubrey Chaparrals lost their first game of the season in the S&S tournament.

Javion Williams and Curtis Knicker each scored eight points for Aubrey.

 

Aubrey 67, Valley View 39

SADLER — Aubrey was able to recover after the loss to Howe as Javion Williams scored 23 points in a win over Valley View.

Jevon Saylor added 13 points and Cody Freeman scored nine for the Chaparrals (9-1).

 

Ponder 79, Calvary 42

PONDER — Clay Morgan scored 17 points to lead Ponder over Denton Calvary.

Grant Boxell scored 14 points for the Lions (11-5), while Brady Anderson scored 11.

For Calvary, Matt Hood scored 19 points, Taylor Gerwig added 10 and Ty Grant added six.

 

Girls

Denton 35, Lake Dallas 32

AUBREY — Myesha Taylor put up 13 points to help Denton defeat Lake Dallas.

April Pena scored nine points for the Lady Broncos and Le’andra Johnson added five.

For Lake Dallas, Megan Dando scored 12 points, McKenzie Harrison had 11 and Ashley Hayes added nine.

 

Howe 36, Aubrey 30

AUBREY — Despite a 13-point effort from Kendyle Wright, the Lady Chaparrals fell to Howe.

Allison Crooks and Shelby Saxon each added six points.

 

Denton 25, Aubrey 20

AUBREY — LaNeisha Hudspeth scored eight points for the Lady Broncos, who defeated the Lady Chaparrals at home.

Myesha Taylor scored seven points for Denton (4-9) and Le’andra Johnson added five.

Kendyle Wright led Aubrey (7-7) with nine points, while Mahaley Millican and Alex Marinez each added five.

 

Guyer 66, Farmersville 30

AUBREY — Bre Clay-Baker scored 11 points to lead Guyer to a victory over Farmersville.

Quamese Moss added 10 points and Ali Downard had nine.

 

Gainesville 55, Guyer 50

AUBREY — Despite a 14-point effort from Quamese Moss, the Lady Wildcats fell to Gainesville in the Aubrey tournament.

Tierney Peters scored 12 points for the Lady Wildcats (8-3) and Bre Clay-Baker added nine.

 

Colleyville Heritage 56, Ryan 38

COLLEYVILLE — The Lady Raiders slipped to 6-8 on the season after falling to Colleyville Heritage.

Ashtyn Lovett led the Lady Raiders with 14 points, while Morgan Davis scored eight and Mariah Young had six.
