Basketball roundup: Williams scores 35 in win

AUBREY — Despite the loss of his father Friday, Javion Williams decided to play for Aubrey to honor his father’s memory. Williams scored 35 points on the night, intentionally missing two free throws to end his scoring with his father’s age and leading the Chaparrals to a very memorable 73-60 victory over Celina.

Michael Page was also in double digits for Aubrey (18-4) with 19 points, while Brylan Williams added 10.

 

Ponder 84, Alvord 32

PONDER — Clay Morgan scored 31 points and Micah Broadstreet added 20 to lead Ponder over Alvord.

With the win, the Lions improved to 19-8 on the season.

 

Denton 73, Azle 68

AZLE — Michael Jackson scored 20 points to help Denton rally from a fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Azle.

A.D. Harris scored 14 points for the Broncos (9-13) and Manny Patterson, who added 10.

The Broncos improved to 5-1 in District 5-4A with the win.

Denton 48, Azle 28

AZLE — April Pena scored 13 points to lead Denton to a victory over Azle.

The Lady Broncos improved to 2-5 in District 5-4A and 7-16 on the season.

Lyric King was also in double-digits for Denton with 12 points and Myesha Taylor added 10.

 

Frisco Lone Star 49, Argyle 41

FRISCO — Despite a 16-point effort from Jesse Sheridan, the Argyle Lady Eagles were handed their first loss in weeks.

Kim Strelke scored nine points for Argyle (22-4, 1-1 District 10-3A) and Allea Harris had eight.

 

Liberty Christian 59, Dallas Bishop Dunne 36

DALLAS — Liberty remained unbeaten in TAPPS 5-A play after Rebecca Hand scored 17 points to lead Liberty Christian to a victory over Dallas Bishop Dunne.

Rayvon Christian scored 14 points for the Lady Warriors (14-11, 3-0 district), and Sydney Goodson added nine.

 

Celina 63, Aubrey 35

AUBREY — The Aubrey Lady Chaps slipped to 0-2 in District 9-3A after losing to Celina at home.

Mahaley Millican led Aubrey (9-16) with 10 points, while Kendyle Wright scored nine and Allison Crooks added seven.
