Denton claimed the most first-place finishes but Guyer walked away with the team titles at the Denton ISD meet Tuesday night.
Denton won 13 of the 24 total events, but Guyer racked up 626 points in the girls division while Ryan was second with 454 points. Denton was third with 360. The Guyer boys finished with 561 points, edging Denton with 556. Ryan was third at 433.
Guyer senior Christina Coon won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.39, just ahead of teammate Meagan Merriman at 27.68. Coon won the 500 freestyle in 6:00.11, and Denton’s Kayla McGill was second at 6:06.03. Guyer’s Jodie Stautner (6:50.38) and Sabrina Lyon (7:06.06) were third and fourth, respectively.
Reagan Fentress also picked up two gold medals for Guyer, winning the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:25.31, edging Ryan’s Briana Hansen at 1:25.99. Fentress teamed with Brooke Scherer, Ashlyn Anderson and Stautner to win the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 4:33.36 — 27 seconds ahead of second-place Ryan.
The Wildcats’ Jenni Mehrmann won the one-meter diving event with a score of 165.40. Denton’s Jessalie Hunter was second at 135.60.
Elise Page, DJ Lang and Anthony Milbitz led the Denton effort by claiming four wins apiece, while Bri Broussard and Cody Knapp each had three first-place finishes.
Page won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:03.96 and the 100 freestyle in 57.36. Page joined Broussard, Rachel Crews and McGill to win the 200 medley relay in 2:06.37. The same foursome won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:49.07.
Broussard’s other win came in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:29.92.
Lang easily won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.59, which was 15 seconds better than his closest competitor. He won the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.40, just ahead of Ryan’s Richard Szepesi at 50.43. Lang teamed with Milbitz, Knapp and Andy Ye to win the 200 medley relay in 1:43.88. Lang, Milbitz, Knapp and Kevin Ye won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.10.
Milbitz took the 200 individual medley in 2:07.58 and then edged Ryan’s Austin Pyrch (58.48) to win the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.00.
Knapp won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.19, just ahead of Guyer’s Tristen Parish at 1:03.49.
Denton’s Josh Rowell won the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:19.87.
Senior Mandi Sutherland led Ryan with a pair of first-place finishes. She won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:12.45, just ahead of Denton’s McGill at 2:13.71. She captured the 100 backstroke with a winning time of 1:07.97, edging Broussard’s 1:08.31.
Mikey Winfrey captured the boys one-meter diving title for Ryan with a total score of 241.20. Richard Szepesi won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.06, just ahead of teammate Pyrch at 23.46. Aaron Lawrence won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.41.
Szepesi, Blaine Gaston, Pyrch and Lawrence teamed to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:36.73.
