The Pilot Point Bearcats and the Ponder Lions powerlifting teams proved to be the class of the field Saturday against 27 other high school squads at the Howe Bulldog Invitational.
Pilot Point took the team title with 23 points, while Ponder finished second with 19 points and Krum finished in ninth place with nine points. Aubrey also competed in the meet but did not score.
Matt Poursoltani had the top finish for Pilot Point by winning the 275-pound class with a total weight of 1,845. Other top finishers for Pilot Point were Riley Stottle, second, in the 242-pound class with a total of 1,295; John Groff was second in the 181-pound class with a total weight of 1,275; and third-place finishes went to Sebastian Guerra in the 123-pound class with 855 pounds and Freddie Roman in the 198-pound class with a total of 1,195.
Other competitors for Pilot Point were Raymond Bhikhai, Stormy Box, Jarrett Wilson and Brandon Price.
Brennan Sooter and Chris Aivaliotis were the top finishers for Ponder. Sooter won the 181-pound class with a 1,340 pound total, while Aivaliotis won the 242-pound class with a total of 1,400 pounds. Danny Rivera was second in the 114-pound class with a total of 675 pounds.
Other competitors for Ponder were Marcus Sampson, Magnum Sampson, Justin Wagner and Jacob Poole.
The top finisher for Krum was Exxon Pantaleon, who won the 114-pound class with a total of 710. Dylan Coffin was fourth in 242-pound class with a total of 1,120.
Other competitors for Krum were Lane Serna, Romario Hernandez, Brad Hull, Jordan Mitchell and Esteban Martinez
Competing for Aubrey were Mark Steinhoff, Clay Kelley, Chancey Hall, Calvin Stang, Alex Quintana and Jack Verhoef.
