Baseball/softball roundup: Guyer opens Flower Mound tournament with two losses

FLOWER MOUND — Guyer dropped two games Thursday to open the first day of the Flower Mound tournament, losing to Flower Mound Marcus 6-1 and to Frisco Wakeland 8-7.

Against Marcus, Daulton Horton took the loss for Guyer (2-5), giving up six runs on nine hits.

In the second game, Reid Battles went 2 for 3, including a double, and had two RBIs and scored twice, but Wakeland rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to win. Chris Monroe went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs for the Wildcats.

Chase Tackman took the loss for Guyer, allowing all eight runs on 11 hits.

ARGYLE — Hayden Holley got the win and Daniel Keene homered to lead the Warriors to the victory. Holley allowed two runs on six hits.

 

Carrollton Diamond Classic

CARROLLTON – The Newman-Smith Trojans broke a 2-2 tie with single runs in the third and fourth inning and then added three in the fifth to take a 7-2 victory over the Denton Broncos in the opening round of the Carrollton Diamond Classic.

Mark Johnson (1-1) suffered the pitching loss for Denton but had a double and Josh Chavez added a triple to the Denton (2-4) offense.

JC Henderson Classic

MILLSAP — Ty Damron pitched a no-hitter and homered as the Bobcats went 2-0 on the first day of the JC Henderson Classic.

Damron held Jim Ned hitless in day’s second game for an 11-0 win. Brennan Ellis led Krum on offense with a triple and two RBIs.

Damron hit his home run against Peaster as the Bobcats opened the day with a 7-4 win. Josh Reeves recorded the win for Krum, allowing four runs on seven hits, and added two doubles at the plate. Ellis added his second triple of the day for Krum.

McKinney Invitational

MCKINNEY — Ryan improved to 13-3 after winning twice on the first day of the McKinney Invitational, defeating Red Oak 7-3 and Carrollton Creekview 7-4.

Against Creekview, Maddie Quintanar went 3 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs for the Lady Raiders, while Hannah Avrett added a pair of doubles.

Kayla Cunningham (3-0) recorded the win for the Lady Raiders, allowing seven hits and four runs.

Carol Raabe picked up the win in the day’s first game, allowing three runs on seven hits against Red Oak. She also hit a double, as did Megan Durante.

Aubrey tournament

AUBREY — Aubrey opened its tournament with a pair of victories, defeating Sanger 7-4 and Ponder 3-0.

Kaley Reding pitched the shutout for the Lady Chaps (13-1-1), allowing only one hit. Nikki Brogden led the offense against Ponder by going 3 for 3 with an RBI.

Against Sanger, Nikki Brogden had a triple and two RBIs, while Erin Dalasantos scored two runs. Kaley Reding recorded the win.

 

Prosper tournament

PROSPER — The Pilot Point Lady Cats went 2-0 on the first day of Prosper tournament, defeating Mount Vernon 8-1 and Paris Chisum 9-5.

Preslee Gallaway picked up both wins from the circle, giving up only three hits and adding 14 strikeouts against Mount Vernon.

She added seven strikeouts in the win against Paris Chisum.

Gallaway also had five RBIs on the day, while Skylar Cagle went a combined 5 for 5, including four doubles.
