Baseball roundup: McKeehan fuels Ryan win

DUNCANVILLE — Ryan senior Chris McKeehan gave himself all the run support he needed against Kennedale in the Art Blair Classic.

McKeehan drove in three runs in Ryan’s 4-0 victory Thursday to open the tournament. The Raiders (6-5) will play Duncanville or West Mesquite today.

McKeehan hit a two-run homer to left-center field in the first inning. He doubled later in the contest. On the mound, he pitched five innings, struck out five batters and issued three walks.

Denton 6, Little Elm 1

DENISON — Denton’s Josh Chavez pitched seven innings of two-hit baseball and the Denton Broncos opened the Denison tournament with a 6-1 win over Little Elm.

Chavez scattered two hits while striking out seven without a walk to pick up the victory for Denton (5-6).

Dakota Soward led the Bronco offense with a pair of hits, drove in one run and scored three times.

After Little Elm scored an unearned first-inning run, Denton scored twice in the second and added one in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Scotland Yard Classic          

HIGHLAND PARK — The Guyer Wildcats split two games in Highland Park’s Scotland Yard Classic because of two big innings.

In the first contest, Saginaw Boswell defeated Guyer 11-5. Boswell scored seven runs in the sixth inning to pick up the comeback victory. Guyer committed five errors in the loss. Domenic Pickering batted 2-for-4 with an RBI for Guyer.

Guyer (4-9) came back in its second game to defeat Addison Trinity Christian 7-5. Pickering hit a three-run double in the top of the seventh to help the Wildcats earn a dramatic victory.

Daulton Horton, Reid Battles, Jud Kinzy and Pickering each had two hits for the Wildcats.

Grand Prairie Classic

GRAND PRAIRIE — The Lake Dallas Falcons picked up two key wins at the Grand Prairie Classic at South Grand Prairie.

Lake Dallas opened Thursday’s play with a narrow 6-5 win over Dallas Hillcrest in five innings.

The Falcons scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Jackson Owens and Tony Green doubled for the Falcons, while T.J. Sullivan tripled in the victory. Joe Williamson pitched the fifth inning and earned the victory.

In the Falcons’ second game, Lake Dallas defeated Arlington 6-3. Owens, Cox and Keenan Wingfield all doubled, and Sullivan homered in the victory. Tyler Hull pitched six innings to get the win, while Kyle Wilson pitched the seventh inning and got the save.

 

Argyle 13, Aubrey 1

VAN ALSTYNE — Argyle cruised with a 13-1 victory over Aubrey in four innings at the Van Alstyne tournament.

Argyle (9-2) scored four runs in the second inning and six in the third to get the win. Tyler Gibson, Dillon Harp and Seth Jones all doubled for Argyle and Davis Coghlan hit a home run.

Tanner Buxton and Collin Scribner each doubled in the loss for Aubrey.

Bonham tournament

BONHAM — The Krum Bobcats racked up two victories in the Bonham tournament.

Krum opened the tournament with a convincing 12-2 victory over Paris North Lamar. The game went only four innings.

Brennan Ellis, Josh Reeves, Ty Damron and Trey Johnson all doubled in the victory. Ellis and Reeves each had three RBIs in the victory over North Lamar.

In the second game, the Bobcats squeaked out a 4-3 victory against Bonham. The Bobcats scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull off the comeback.

Zack Hughes homered and had three RBIs in the win, while Brendan Styles doubled and homered.

Damron, who’s signed to play for Texas Tech, picked up the victory and had 14 strikeouts.

PONDER — Ponder dropped its opening game of its home tournament with an 8-4 loss to Sunnyvale.

Sunnyvale scored six runs in the final two innings to pick up the comeback victory.

Keaton Malcom went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the loss for Ponder. The Lions were undone by five errors.

Austin Hayden, who picked up the loss, allowed five runs but only one was earned.

FRISCO — Colleyville Heritage defeated Liberty Christian 10-3 in the Tournament of Champions at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

Foster Ford, Grier Newlan and Connor McMann all doubled in the victory, and Wade Oliver hit a triple for the Warriors.

Connor McMann took the loss on the mound.

Liberty scored three runs on eight hits and committed two errors. Heritage scored its 10 runs on 11 hits and an error.
