Four area teams will begin play today in the Class 4A bi-district soccer playoffs, hoping to end up in Georgetown for the state tournament next month.
The group is highlighted by the Guyer girls, ranked No. 3 in the Class 4A state poll by the Texas Girls Coaches Association, The Lady Wildcats are coming off winning the District 11-4A title with an undefeated run led by leading goal scorer Brittney Crabtree, who has scored 27 goals.
Guyer will meet Mineral Wells — the fourth seed out of District 12-4A — at 6 p.m. tonight at Saginaw Boswell and would move on to face Gainesville on Friday with a win.
At Justin Northwest’s Texan Stadium, Denton will play in a boys playoff doubleheader as Guyer, the third-place team out 11-4A, will face Azle, 12-4A’s runner-up, at 6 p.m. with the winner moving on to face Wichita Falls Rider later in the week. The Denton boys, who finished fourth in 11-4A, will face 12-4A champ Aledo after the Guyer-Azle match.
In other girls playoff action, fourth-seed Lake Dallas is coming off a 2-1 victory on Friday that got the Lady Falcons into the postseason, where they will play host to District 12-4A champ Aledo at 7 p.m.
