Baseball/softball roundup: Boyzuick gives Argyle win with three-run shot

ARGYLE — Argyle’s Brandon Boyzuick ended Saturday afternoon’s game against Rowlett in dramatic fashion.

With his team trailing by two runs in the eighth inning, Boyzuick hit a three-run home run and lifted Argyle to an 8-7 nondistrict victory over the Class 5A team.

Rowlett tied the game in the top of the seventh to send the game to extra innings and scored two runs in the eighth before Boyzuick’s blast off Rowlett’s Caleb Kiefer.

Davis Coghlan and Seth Jones each doubled for Argyle (21-3).

Keller Fossil Ridge 5, Ryan 0

The Ryan Raiders were held to two hits in a 5-0 nondistrict loss to Keller Fossil Ridge.

Chris McKeehan and Dimitri Cruz had Ryan’s hits on the day.

Grant Gohlke pitched six innings for the Raiders (6-18) and allowed six hits and one earned run.

Ryan committed six errors.

COPPELL 11, RYAN 2

COPPELL — The Coppell Cowboys kept Ryan winless in District 5-5A play with an 11-2 defeat of the Raiders late Friday night.

The Raiders’ Ryan Burks and Kraig Behrens allowed a combined 11 walks to Coppell. Behrens led Ryan at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Softball

Ponder 7, Boyd 0

PONDER — Ponder’s Jessica Orozco held Boyd to two hits and pitched a complete game in the Lady Lions’ victory Saturday.

Orozco struck out 13 batters and allowed three walks.

Ponder’s Mackenzie Chapman went 3-for-4 with a run scored, while Karah Ortiz and Hannah Prather also had multiple hits.

DALLAS — Dallas Ursuline picked up a walk-off win in TAPPS District 1-5A.

After trailing by two runs, Liberty tied it in the top of the seventh inning before Ursuline pushed across the winning run in its half of the final inning.
