Softball, baseball playoff action resumes

Due to possible inclement weather in store for Thursday, the Guyer softball team will open the week’s playoff schedule today when the Lady Wildcats travel to Aledo to open a best-of-three Class 4A area-round series at 7:30 p.m.

Both teams swept their bi-district series, with Guyer beating Saginaw by a combined score of 14-0 and Aledo sweeping Waco University. Game 2 is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Guyer and Game 3, if necessary, is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at a site to be determined.

After securing a first-round bye in the Class 3A playoffs, District 9-3A champion Sanger will open with an area-round series against Nevada Community, with Game 1 slated for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Sanger. Games 2 and 3 would be played Friday and Saturday, respectively, at Nevada Community.

Another district champion opens its postseason Friday, as District 12-2A’s Pilot Point, top-ranked for much of the season, will open against Ponder, which beat Godley in the bi-district round. The teams will play just one game, set for 6:30 p.m. at Denton.

Aubrey, which swept Decatur in the bi-district round last week, will open a best-of-three Class 3A series at 7 p.m. Friday against District 11-3A champion Ferris, with Games 2 and 3 set for Saturday — all at Plano John Paul II.

While softball is in its second week of playoffs, the baseball postseason opens this week with several area teams in action.

Krum, the third-place team from District 9-3A, will square off with a powerful Celina squad — the District 10-3A runner-up — in a one-game bi-district playoff at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Denton’s Bronco Field.

Also on Thursday, Ponder will open a best-of-three 2A series with Whitney at 7:30 p.m. at Mansfield Lake Ridge. Games 2 and 3 are set for Saturday at Lake Ridge, beginning at noon.

At 7:30 p.m. Friday, Guyer, the second seed from District 5-4A, will open its best-of-three playoff series at Saginaw. Games 2 and 3 are set for Saturday at Guyer, beginning at 4 p.m.

Sanger opens the 3A playoffs against Frisco Lone Star at 7 p.m. Friday at Denton, with Games 2 and 3 set for Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m., at Denton.

The Argyle baseball team, the District 10-3A champion, received a first-round bye and will face the winner of a bi-district series between Bonham and Wilmer-Hutchins next week.
