Sanger’s Justus Morgan will run in the Class 3A 110-meter hurdles on Saturday at the UIL State Track and Field Championships in Austin.

For the next two days in Austin at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas, several area athletes will be competing to bring home medals in the UIL state track and field meet.

There are several competitors looking to repeat on the medal stand, highlighted by defending Class 3A boys high jump champion Spencer McCloud, a Texas commit, who will be competing for Argyle for the final time.

The Ryan boys 1,600-meter relay team, composed of Zac Black, A.J. George, Terrell Cross and Korey Chappell, is coming off two straight second-place finishes at the state meet in Class 4A but now is going in the state’s top classification. The unit enters with the third-best time behind Houston Nimitz and Humble Kingwood.

Another defending medalist is the Argyle girls 1,600 relay team, composed of Brooke Robertson, Taylor Mueller, Laine Lowry and Kassie Hargroves, which took home the silver medal last year and enters this year’s meet with the fifth-best time.

Guyer will be making its return to the state meet after a two-year absence while at the 5A level, led by hurdler Jalen Hunter. Hunter qualified in both the 110 and 300 hurdles and is the anchor of the 800 relay team, which also features John Schilleci, Josh Harris and Jerrod Heard. On the girls’ side, the 1,600 relay team will compete, as will team member Candalyn Lyons, who also qualified in the girls 100.

The area will also have two triple jumpers competing — Lake Dallas’ Joshua Jackson and Denton’s Victoria Amadi.
