Liberty Christian’s Foster Ford and Krum’s Julia Schmaltz were named athletes of the year recently by the Greater Denton Sports Commission in ceremonies held at Oakmont Country Club.

Ford, who will be attending Western Oklahoma State next year, was a muti-sport standout for Liberty. He started at quarterback for the football team and was a guard on the Warriors’ basketball squad. He helped Liberty to the TAPPS Class 5A baseball and track championships.

Schmaltz wrapped up her high school career by earning all-state honors in basketball and leading the Lady Cats to the Class 3A state tournament. She was District 9-3A’s most valuable player in basketball and also earned regional berths in track and tennis.

Also honored were Krum’s Travis White, Argyle’s Spencer McCloud, Ponder’s Madison Stout and Aubrey’s Kelsey Scribner.

Each of the honorees was awarded college scholarship money from the Greater Denton Sports Commission.
